With increasing maternal age, the risk of genetic abnormalities in oocytes increases, which reduces the chances of a successful pregnancy. Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) within the framework of an IVF treatment allows for the examination of the genetic material of oocytes and embryos to select embryos with normal genetic makeup class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Polar Body Diagnosis (PBD)<\/h3><p>This method involves examining the polar bodies of the oocyte, which are formed during meiosis. This allows conclusions to be drawn about the maternally inherited genetic information of the embryo. The oocyte itself remains intact. This method is frequently used as a screening for chromosomal abnormalities in women aged 37 and older, but can also be used to detect known monogenic alterations. The examination is recommended when the less invasive polar body diagnostics is insufficient, for instance, in cases of suspected chromosomal disorders or genetic alterations in the paternal genetic material. While polar body diagnostics (PBD) can be performed in any laboratory approved under the Genetic Engineering Act, additional legal requirements, beyond laboratory approval, must be met for PGT
